Former Bulls assistant pushed team to draft Warriors' Green over Marquis Teague in 2012

Thirty-four picks were made in the 2012 NBA Draft before the Golden State Warriors took forward Draymond Green 35th overall.

If former Chicago Bulls assistant coach Ron Adams - who currently works under Steve Kerr for Golden State - had his way, Green wouldn't have fallen past No. 29.

Chicago wound up drafting Marquis Teague, a 6-foot-2 guard who'd just won a national championship with Kentucky.

As Grantland's Zach Lowe writes, Adams pushed hard for the Bulls to take a chance on Green while working as Tom Thibodeau's go-to guy on the sidelines.

"As a coaching staff, we were very disappointed we didn't get him," said Adams. "He is definitely a Chicago kind of guy. This is no reflection on Kevin Love, but every team wants a Draymond Green. He has internalized the parts of the game that are the winning parts: the hustle, the grit, the defense, making the right play at the right time. I love that guy. I'm glad he’s on our team."

The Warriors were heavily linked to Love last June.

Teague now plays for the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA's Developmental League and didn't amount to much during his short stint in the Windy City, averaging just 2.1 points and 1.4 assists in 9.5 minutes during his 67 games with the team.

The Bulls dealt Teague to the Brooklyn Nets in January 2014 for Tornike Shengelia. The Philadelphia 76ers acquired Teague through a trade almost 10 months later and waived him after just three days.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Green has emerged as a star on the rise in just his third season with the Warriors. He earned a spot on the NBA'S All-Defensive First Team and finished second in voting for both Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player in 2015.

Green is averaging a double-double of 13.6 points and 10.5 rebounds with a PER of 16.2 during the Warriors' ongoing postseason run.
