Report: Michigan's Dennis Norfleet suspended; not dismissed from program

Michigan senior Dennis Norfleet has been suspended from all football activities because of academic issues, according to Dan Murphy of ESPN.

It was widely reported Tuesday that Norfleet had been dismissed from the program by new head coach Jim Harbaugh, but those reports have proven false.

"There's no finality right now to what's going on," said Terel Patrick, a former coach of Norfleet's helping him sort through the issue. "He didn't have the best semester academically. He's working through some issues right now. He's been suspended from team activities, but it's not final as far as his position."

The false report originated from the head coach of Norfleet's high school team telling MLive.com the senior was "dismissed from the team."

Michigan has not commented one way or the other, stating Tuesday, "This is an internal matter."

Norfleet is a versatile weapon that can play in all three phases of the game, seeing time at wide receiver, running back and cornerback during his first three seasons with the Wolverines. He had 938 kick return yards in 2013, ranking second all-time in school history.
