Maids testify about finding multiple guns in Aaron Hernandez's house
Two women who cleaned the home of former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez testified Monday about discovering multiple guns before the murder of Odin Lloyd.
Housekeeper Marilia Prinholato and her boss, Grazielli Silva, told jurors they found the weapons while tidying, and were later asked to sign non-disclosure agreements, which both declined to do, Bob McGovern of the Boston Herald reports.
Prinholato testified she found a gun while fixing the sheets in Hernandez's guest bedroom. She said the gun was approximately 30-40 centimeters long and heavy. Silva told jurors she felt a gun while making the same bed, but didn't look at it.
Silva also said she saw a gun that was about the same size as a police officer's in Hernandez's sock drawer on two separate occasions. She recalled on another occasion finding a smaller gun in Hernandez's khakis, which were left on the floor of his master bedroom, and showing it to Prinholato.
"I picked up the pants to put them away," Silva said, in broken English. "They were heavy. I put my hands inside, and I felt there was a gun."
Superior Court judge E. Susan Garsh reminded jurors several times the evidence couldn't be used to show that Hernandez had a propensity to kill, but if the jurors believed the testimony, they could use it as evidence that Hernandez had the means to commit murder.
Silva testified she was fired by Hernandez's fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, after declining to sign the non-disclosure agreement. Jenkins has been granted immunity by prosecutors in exchange for her testimony.
Silva said she went to Hernandez's home on June 18, 2013 - the day after Lloyd was murdered - to speak with Jenkins, but she had difficulty paying attention to the conversation.
"She was nervous," Silva said. "I could see she had cried before."
Prosecutors showed jurors a $300 check that Silva received from Jenkins that same day, which contradicts earlier testimony from Jenkins' sister. Shaneah Jenkins said she saw her sister leaving the house with a black trash bag. When Shaneah asked Shayanna where she was going, she said she was getting cash for the housekeepers.
