Oregon coach Mark Helfrich granted 5-year contract extension worth $17.5 million
Mark Helfrich's work leading Oregon to the College Football Playoff national championship game is being rewarded.
Oregon has given the Ducks head coach a five-year contract extension worth $17.5 million over five years, the school announced Monday.
"Mark has provided tremendous leadership of our football program and the values and character that he insists upon are in line with our mission as an institution," said Rob Mullens, director of athletics.
Under the new contract, Helfrich is guaranteed $3.15 million in 2015. His salary can increase to a maximum of $3.8 million in 2019-20, the final year of the agreement.
In only his second season as a head coach, Oregon set a school record by winning 13 games. Helfrich was named one of three finalists for Maxwell Football Club's National Coach of the Year Award.
