Many college football fans expected the College Football Playoff selection committee to decide whether Baylor or TCU would make the inaugural College Football Playoff.
However, the Big 12 was shut out instead when Ohio State was named the No. 4 team Sunday afternoon.
After announcing that Alabama, Oregon, Florida State and Ohio State would duke it out for a chance to win a national championship, Jeff Long, the selection committee chairman, commented on the committee's process.
Here are some of the things Long said about why the Buckeyes made the No. 4 seed over the Horned Frogs and the Bears.
"Ohio State was clear cut over 5 and 6." - Jeff Long

Jeff Long: "With the championship game #OhioState demonstrated they were a total team. .. Decisive to move into the 4th spot."

Jeff Long: "The fact there were co-champions in the Big 12 had no bearing on the decision."

Jeff Long asked of if Big 12 is better with title game: "I can't answer what's best for the Big 12. ... That's for the Big 12 to decide."

After speaking with Long, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby told ESPN that he respected the committee's decision, but was disappointed with the results.
Bob Bowlsby: "It’s clear we were penalized for not having postseason game. It would have been nice to been told that beforehand"

Bob Bowlsby said may get change to have title game w/fewer than 12 members. "Is it substantial enough to add members?"

Bob Bowlsby: “We have to weigh whether this is substantial enough to add institutions... It’s certainly a major consideration.” WOW.
