Real Sociedad sack manager Jagoba Arrasate
A third La Liga manager has fallen as Real Sociedad announced on Sunday that Jagoba Arrasate has been relieved of his duties.
The announcement came one day after Sociedad fell 1-0 to Malaga, a result that left the club sitting 19th in La Liga with only six points from their opening 10 fixtures. It's a disastrous start to the campaign for a club that was in the Champions League as recently as last season.
Sociedad issued a statement regarding the managerial change, which read: "Real Sociedad have relieved Jagoba Arrasate of his first team managerial duties. Coaches Txema Lumbreras and Bittor Alkiza have also been relieved of their duties as second and third coach, respectively.
"Until a new manager and his coaching staff is named, Asier Santana and Imanol Alguacil, current coaches of Sanse, will direct the first team training. Tomorrow's training will begin at 4pm at Zubieta.
"Real Sociedad would like to thank [Arrasate] for his professionalism, commitment and dedication, as well as that of his staff of Txema Lumbreras and Bittor Alkiza for their work with the first team."
Reports had been circulating throughout the week that Arrasate was set to be sacked by Sociedad, and according to Marca, the favourites to take over at the Anoeta include high-profile managers David Moyes, Pepe Mel, and Alejandro Sabella, while Thomas Tuchel and Juande Ramos have also been linked with the vacant position.
