Hiroshima Carp owner undecided about posting Kenta Maeda

Hiroshima Toyo Carp owner Hajime Matsuda admitted Tuesday he's undecided on whether to make right-hander Kenta Maeda available to major-league teams this winter via the posting system.

Maeda previously expressed a desire to pitch in the majors, but his relatively disappointing campaign in 2014 could compel Matsuda to forego posting the 26-year-old.

“We have the right. We would like to let him go, but based on his production this year it will be difficult,” Matsuda told the Japan Times

Maeda's slight regression could deter major-league suitors from paying the posting fee determined by his Japanese club, a figure capped at a maximum of $20 million.

Though Maeda compiled impressive numbers this past season, his performance paled in comparison to the dominance he enjoyed over the previous two. Maeda crafted a 2.56 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP over 27 starts in 2014, notching 154 strikeouts while issuing 40 walks over 179 innings.
