Wings GM on contract talks with DeKeyser: 'It's gone quiet the last couple of weeks'
Contract talks between the Detroit Red Wings and defenseman Danny DeKeyser have slowed to a crawl, according to general manager Ken Holland.
"We had a number of productive talks until a couple of weeks ago," Holland told Ansar Khan of MLive, "[but] it's gone quiet the last couple of weeks. It's gotten to a point where it's difficult because there aren't many comparables.
"At this stage of the game, everybody is still hopeful and optimistic we can find a solution. Sometimes you need to take some time and have another go at it. It's important to get a deal done that's fair for the player and fair for the club. Hopefully it can get done before camp."
DeKeyser is participating in informal skates with members of the club, and is coming off a rookie season that demonstrated his ability to succeed at the NHL level.
However, his 76 career games don't appear to have provided enough of a sample size in order to determine the fairest valuation for his next contract.
