Chiefs release Weston Dressler; could return to CFL

Weston Dressler's NFL experiment ended Monday when he was cut by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Dressler was a star receiver with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before trying to crack an NFL roster this offseason and a return to the CFL seems likely now that Kansas City no longer wants him.

Roughriders coach Corey Chamblin suggested having Dressler back "would be a plus," but stressed the importance of conditioning, wondering if Dressler would be in mid-season shape after attending an NFL training camp.

Another possible CFL destination is Ottawa, where the Redblacks are struggling to generate touchdowns despite having veteran Henry Burris under centre. Adding a receiver of Dressler's calibre would go a long way to stabilizing the expansion franchise's offence.
