Vincent Kompany signs 5-year contract with Manchester City
Manchester City continue to lock up the most important members of their championship-winning team.
Centre-back and captain Vincent Kompany signed a five-year contract with the defending Premier League champions on Wednesday.
Midfielder David Silva signed a five-year contract earlier this week.
The Belgian international is the central cog in Manuel Pellegrini's defence, making The Guardian's list of the 100 best footballers in 2012.
Kompany joined City in 2008 and has made 181 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals in that time.
“When I arrived in 2008, I could never have dreamed that we could achieve what we have over the last six years but, for me, this is just the start of the journey," Kompany said in a statement released on the club's official website.
The 28-year-old defender is confident Manchester City can continue to win trophies.
“This team is stronger now than it’s ever been; we have competition for places in every position and a dressing room full of exceptional, motivated people who want to continue making history together.
