Report: Blue Jays' Lawrie to begin rehab assignment Friday
Toronto Blue Jays second/third baseman Brett Lawrie is reportedly one step closer to a return from injury.
Brett Lawrie begins his rehab assignment with @DunedinBlueJays tonight, leading off and playing 2B. Very good news. #Bluejays #Jays

Lawrie, who has been on the disabled list since June 22 with a fractured right index finger, would be a huge addition for the injury-riddled Blue Jays with some big divisional games looming.
The Blue Jays are in Houston for the next three games, have an off-day Monday, and then begin a crucial series with the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Lawrie could return at some point next week.
Gibbons on chances of Lawrie returning Tues "let's not get ahead of ourselves. He may need more than 3 rehab games. He's been out a while"
