Astros reach 'verbal agreement' with No.1 pick Brady Aiken

The Houston Astros are reportedly close to inking the number one overall draft pick, Brady Aiken.

A 17-year-old left-handed pitcher out of Central Catholic High School in San Diego, Aiken's draft position carries a slot value of $7.9 million.

Jim Aiken, the father, spoke to Brian McTaggart of MLB Blogs on Sunday, and expressed confidence in a deal between the two parties coming together.

That’s pretty much done. It’s more contract language and a few more ancillary things in the contract to be hammered out. I was involved in the negotiations on Thursday. I think we’ve reached an agreement, but our advisors are working with the Astros executives on the contract and once the Draft ends, then we’re going to get back on it.

No official deal has been signed, but Jim Aiken also said to Mark Berman of My Fox Houston:

"I would say we have a verbal agreement in place," Aiken said. "Next thing is to hammer out the details of the contract and hopefully that'll be done in the next week or two."
