Coach K on Derrick Rose: 'We expect him to be there' for late-July camp

Depending on how you view such things, the comments from Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday will either excite or enrage you.

Asked on an ESPNU podcast whether or not injured Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose will be joining the national team for their training camp in late July, Coach K left little doubt:

We expect him to be there that last week of July when we're choosing the team in Vegas. He can't make the team unless he's ready to go full bore. And knowing Derrick I would think he'll be ready, and hopefully he'll be 100 percent.

Now, on the one hand, this could make Bulls fans confident that Rose is well on the way to recovery from the meniscus tear that ended his season in November. On the other, it seems quite a risk to have the recovering superstar participate in anything but rehabilitation activities ahead of the 2014-15 season.

Of course, Rose won't be participating unless medical staff feel he's ready, so where you land is a matter of risk preference.

The camp begins in Las Vegas in late July and will look to narrow a pool of 28 players down to a roster of 12 for the FIBA World Cup that begins on August 30.
