Forbes: Knicks and Lakers set record for most valuable NBA franchises

The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are very rich and valuable franchises.

We'll wait while your heart-rate slows back down after that incredibly shcoking news.

Anyway, Forbes released their annual franchise valuations on Wednesday, an oft-disputed annual tradition. The leaders aren't of note so much as their value is - with David Stern about to retire from his post as commissioner, the Knicks and Lakers both topped the previous high for franchise value.

That's a nice little feather in Stern's cap, having helped grow franchises to all-time highs in value.

According to the profile, "The average NBA franchise is worth $634 million, up 25% over last year. Collectively the 30 teams are worth $19 billion versus $400 million in 1984." Profitability was also up, with operating income doubling to an average of $23.7 million, also an all-time high.

Here's how all 30 franchises stack up, but again, keep in mind that these values tend to be disputed by analysts and the franchises themselves.
