GIF: Alex Ovechkin loses stick, picks it up, scores goal

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin leads the league in goals scored this season, and by a rather wide margin. So it's understandable that Pittsburgh Penguins shutdown defender Brooks Orpik thought slashing Ovechkin's stick out of his hands while the flashy Russian sniper skated through the slot was a good play.

While it makes sense in theory (no stick, no goal - right?), Ovechkin is just too good. The Capitals captain simply picked his stick back up off the ice and roofed a shot past Marc-Andre Fleury:
