Forget about baseball for a second, because Jerry Coleman was so much more than a baseball player, and a baseball broadcaster. Coleman fought in two wars. Not one, but two. He was a decorated veteran, even inducted into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame.
To remember Coleman for his baseball exploits doesn't do the man justice, as Keith Olbermann reminds us. Coleman was a role model, something baseball players are no longer. And Coleman was a hero, a word that is thrown around far too liberally these days.
Olbermann paid tribute to Coleman, who passed away on Sunday at 89, on Monday night, and you're going to need some Kleenex:
