Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will stop financing LIV Golf after the current season, sources told Andrew Beaton of The Wall Street Journal.

LIV plans to inform players and employees Thursday. Reports of PIF pulling funding for the breakaway golf circuit first surfaced earlier this month, but LIV still staged its event in Mexico amid the uncertainty.

There are seven tournaments remaining on LIV's 2026 schedule.

PIF's investment in LIV reached $5.3 billion earlier this year, according to Golfweek's Adam Schupak.

LIV is seeking additional investors to keep the league afloat, Beaton notes.

The path for former PGA TOUR players to return after bolting for LIV is unclear at this point. Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed defected from LIV earlier this season, but Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau declined opportunities to follow.

LIV Golf is in its fifth season.
