Reyna trades Dortmund for Gladbach chasing 'new chapter'
United States forward Giovanni Reyna has joined Borussia Monchengladbach until 2028 after six years at neighbours Borussia Dortmund, the selling club confirmed on Saturday.
German tabloid Bild reported Gladbach paid up to seven million euros ($8 million) for the 22-year-old attacking midfielder, with Dortmund securing a 15 percent sell-on clause.
Reyna thanked Dortmund, saying he was looking forward to a "new chapter" at Gladbach.
Once considered the United States' next great footballing hope, Reyna's career has stalled at Dortmund, as he struggled with injuries and a lack of game time.
Last season, Reyna played 26 times in all competitions, scoring twice, but only five of those appearances were starts.
"We have a long history with Gio," Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl said in a statement, adding "unfortunately his development in recent season has not progressed as hoped.
In total, Reyna played 106 times for Dortmund in the Bundesliga, scoring 15 times.
Deployed as either a forward, winger or an attacking midfielder, Reyna has played 32 times, scoring eight goals for the United States.
