Patricio O’Ward: Cuts deficit to Palou

O'Ward finished second in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 IndyCar race on Sunday.

Analysis:

O'Ward qualified third for the race and was in contention for a win throughout the day. He ended up in a duel with Kyle Kirkwood, with O'Ward running a longer stint prior to his final pit stop and Kirkwood engaging in an undercut. The latter turned out to be the right call, with O'Ward more concerned about defending second place from Christian Rasmussen than truly challenging Kirkwood in the final laps. While he would have preferred a win, O'Ward did pick up ground on Alex Palou in the driver standings and is now only 73 points off the pace.
