Butler sued over alleged property damage, unpaid rent in Miami Beach
Jimmy Butler has landed in legal trouble over a property he leased during his tenure with the Miami Heat.
South Florida company Five Star Marketing and Promotions filed a lawsuit against the Golden State Warriors forward Wednesday alleging he caused property damage and owes unpaid rent on a Miami Beach home, WPLG Local 10 reported.
Five Star claims in the lawsuit that Butler continued to stay in the home for two months past the date his lease expired but failed to pay rent for that time period. The company stated the lease stipulated that Butler would pay double the rent, which amounted to $130,000 per month, if he stayed past August 2024.
The lawsuit also alleged that Butler caused $125,000 in damages to the home and changed the locks. He's being sued for $257,282 total.
Butler was traded to the Warriors at the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline after five-and-a-half seasons with the Heat.
