Matthews exits practice with minor upper-body injury

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews exited practice early Tuesday due to an undisclosed upper-body injury.

Head coach Craig Berube said Matthews' issue isn't significant.

"Just an upper-body thing," Berube told TSN. "Nothing serious, he should be fine."

The Maple Leafs are scheduled to play their second exhibition contest Tuesday night in Ottawa. They're icing a youth-heavy roster that didn't include Matthews even before he left Tuesday's session early.

Matthews played in Toronto's preseason opener on Sunday. He registered a goal on five shots in an overtime loss to Ottawa.

The Maple Leafs open their regular-season slate on Oct. 9th against the Montreal Canadiens.
