An old story surrounding a potential Kansas City Chiefs good luck charm is making the rounds again now that the team is headed to Allegiant Stadium for Super Bowl LVIII.

In 2017, Kansas City fan Chris Scherzer shared a photo of his friend holding up a Chiefs Kingdom flag that he claimed was buried at the construction site of what would become the new home of the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Ron Kantowski of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

"Flag buried in dirt, encased in concrete, with a stadium built on top of it," Scherzer wrote in a since-deleted Facebook post. "Chiefs 1, Raiders 0. Las Vegas."

Gerard DeCosta, the construction worker in the photo, told KCTV in 2019 that he was banned from the site and moved to a new location after the photo went viral. He said that he was permitted to work on the Raiders' training facility but added that he had to sign papers assuring he wouldn't smuggle in any Chiefs merchandise.

Raiders fans have since claimed to have dug up the flag, though DeCosta has disputed their story.

The Chiefs have fared well at Allegiant Stadium so far, going 4-0 against the Raiders since the building opened in 2020.

Super Bowl LVIII between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers is scheduled for Feb. 11 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
