Jets superfan 'Fireman Ed' tells team 'it's time to move on' from Wilson
New York Jets superfan "Fireman Ed" Anzalone is adding his voice to the calls for Zach Wilson to be replaced as the team's starting quarterback.
Anzalone, a former FDNY firefighter who's become a fixture at Jets home games, told Scott Thompson of Fox News that he's seen enough from Wilson following the Jets' 15-10 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
"Joe Douglas and coach (Robert) Saleh, you's did everything you could. It's time to move on," Anzalone said. "You owe it to the locker room to move on. You go with Tim Boyle as the backup, and you go sign a veteran.
"(Wilson) is done. It's the third year, and there's nothing."
Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namath made similar comments Monday while appearing on ESPN's "The Michael Kay Show," calling Wilson's Week 3 performance "awful" and saying he "wouldn't keep him."
New York signed veteran QB Trevor Siemian earlier this week.
Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, took over as the Jets' starting quarterback after Aaron Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles in the season opener. He's completed 52.4% of his passes for 467 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions through three games.
