Dwight Howard spent the majority of his NBA career with the Orlando Magic, but it was the Los Angeles Lakers who won his heart.

In an interview with Complex's Zion Olojede, Howard likened his relationship with the Lakers to that of an ex-girlfriend who someone keeps coming back to.

"It's been crazy, but it's just for some reason we just clicked," the veteran big man said. "I don't know, you could have a little girlfriend or whatever and it's just, y'all done been together, y'all done broke up. You done tried other girlfriends but it's just some type of connection y'all got.

"That's how we feel about the Lakers. Man, it's just something that we got this connection. I don't know. It got to work. It got to work. But I do love the Lakers, man. We had the championship run there, and I wish we would've had a chance to keep going because that was the squad right there. We had everything."

Howard first suited up in the purple and gold during the 2012-13 season after arriving via a trade from the Magic, with whom he spent the first eight years of his career. He returned to the Lakers twice, including in 2019-20 when he won his first and only NBA championship.

The 37-year-old also spent time with the Houston Rockets, Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Washington Wizards.

Howard most recently played for the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League in Taiwan, earning Most Valuable Import honors for the 2022-23 season.
