Rodgers launches crowdfunding campaign for online sports database
Aaron Rodgers is looking for fans to invest in his internet startup.
The New York Jets quarterback is starting a crowdsourcing campaign with the goal of raising $1.25 million in bridge funding for the Online Sports Database, according to Ashley Cullins of the Hollywood Reporter.
"I like the idea of giving fans the opportunity to invest and get behind something they feel connected to, like OSDB," Rodgers said.
Rodgers launched OSDB in 2021 with actor Ryan Rottman with the vision of creating a sports version of the popular online database IMDB. They currently offer information for around 26,000 professional athletes on their site and are set to launch a subscription version in September.
"We always really loved the fact that the fans could invest in the Green Bay Packers (and loved) the community it created. We wanted to bring that same mentality to OSDB," Rottman said. "We want like-minded sports fans to be involved. We want you to go out there and talk about OSDB, that you own a company with Aaron Rodgers, and really create a community. Because sports is about teams and communities."
Rodgers is entering his first season with the Jets after spending the last 18 years in Green Bay. He reportedly agreed to restructure his contract so will now earn $1.165 million in 2023 and $107.55 million in 2024.
