Report: Suns intend to add Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas to front office
The Phoenix Suns' new owner, Mat Ishbia, intends to hire Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas for a prominent role in the front office, sources told TNT's Chris Haynes.
The NBA approved Ishbia's $4-billion purchase of the Suns and WNBA team Phoenix Mercury from previous owner Robert Sarver on Monday.
Thomas' last role in basketball was as president of the WNBA's New York Liberty from 2015-17. He has front-office experience with the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks.
The 61-year-old also had stints as the head coach of the Knicks, the Indiana Pacers, and Florida International University.
Thomas sits on the board of Ishbia's company, United Wholesale Mortgage.
As a player with the Detroit Pistons from 1981-94, Thomas won two NBA championships, earned 12 All-Star Game selections, and made the All-NBA first team three times.
