Cam Thomas has stepped up in a big way for the Brooklyn Nets in their last two games, dropping 44 points in a win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday and following it up with a 47-point performance Monday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The second-year guard made history by becoming the second-youngest player in NBA history to record back-to-back games of 40-plus points behind only LeBron James. When asked about the accomplishment, he had a humorous response.
"That's great company that I have my name mentioned with that guy, even though I'm a Kobe guy. So, if you said Kobe, I would've been more (excited)," Thomas joked, per Erik Slater of ClutchPoints. "Nah, I'm kidding, but it's still great company, you know, LeBron. He's about to break the all-time scoring record. ... So I'm just glad to have my name mentioned with him this young.
"So I hope I can keep it going and keep having my name mentioned with those guys."
James was 21 years and 47 days old when he recorded back-to-back 40-plus point games, while Thomas did it at 21 years and 92 days.
Through 36 games this season, Thomas is averaging 9.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.
