Report: Kings, GM McNair agree to contract extension

The Sacramento Kings agreed to a contract extension with general manager Monte McNair, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Kings hired McNair as their general manager in 2020 after he spent 13 years in the Houston Rockets organization under Daryl Morey. His contract was set to expire at the end of the season.

While Sacramento was a combined 61-93 in McNair's first two seasons at the helm, the team is now in its best campaign in nearly 20 years, sitting third in the Western Conference at 27-19.

Some of McNair's major moves since joining the Kings include trading point guard Tyrese Haliburton to the Indiana Pacers for Domantas Sabonis, drafting forward Keegan Murray with the No. 4 pick this past June, and signing star De'Aaron Fox to a five-year maximum extension.

The Kings hold the longest active playoff drought in major North American sports, having failed to make the postseason since the 2005-06 season.
