Usain Bolt discovered more than $12.7 million went missing from an account he has with a private investment firm in Jamaica, according to Danica Coto of the Associated Press.

Lawyers for the eight-time Olympic gold medalist told the AP that Bolt once had $12.8 million in the account, but the balance now shows just $12,000. Bolt's attorneys sent a letter to Stocks & Securities Limited on Monday demanding that the money be returned to their client.

"If this is correct, and we are hoping it is not, then a serious act of fraud (and) larceny, or a combination of both, have been committed against our client," Bolt's attorneys wrote in the letter, which was shared with the AP.

The attorneys have threatened to take civil and criminal action against the investment firm if the money isn't returned to Bolt within 10 days.

Stocks & Securities Limited didn't respond to a request for comment from the AP, but a message on its website states that clients should direct all urgent queries to Jamaica's Financial Services Commission, which is investigating the firm.

"We are closely monitoring the matter throughout all the required steps and will alert our clients of the resolution as soon as that information is available," the message reads.

Bolt, 36, retired from sprinting in 2017. He holds world records in the 100m dash, 200m dash, and 4×100m relay.
