Figueiredo: Latest UFC purse 'totally embarrassing'
UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo isn't content with his recent earnings.
Figueiredo took home a $150,000 purse for his unanimous decision win over Brandon Moreno at UFC 270 in January, in which he recaptured the 125-pound belt.
"Guys fighting for the belt get paid around $500,000, and defending (champions) get around $600,000. My numbers would never go over $200,000," Figueiredo said in Portuguese on MMA Fighting's "Trocacao Franca" podcast, as translated by Guilherme Cruz.
"Totally embarrassing," Figueiredo added. "I know it's low."
The Brazilian recently parted ways with longtime manager Wallid Ismail and hired UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber to assist with securing a raise ahead of his next fight.
"I'm sure he'll fight hard for me," Figueiredo said of Faber.
Figueiredo, who's currently nursing injuries to both of his hands and is targeting a return to the Octagon in December, threatened last month to move up to the bantamweight division if the promotion doesn't accommodate his financial desires.
With the 34-year-old still sidelined, former champion Moreno and top contender Kai Kara-France are set to meet for the interim flyweight title at UFC 277 on July 30.
