LeBron James' origin story will be told in a new movie coming next year.
Peacock announced Monday that "Shooting Stars" - the first film from NBCUniversal's production deal with James' and Maverick Carter's SpringHill Company - will premiere in 2023. Filming is currently underway in James' hometown of Akron, Ohio.
First announced in 2018, "Shooting Stars" is based on the book of the same name that James co-wrote with "Friday Night Lights" author Buzz Bissinger. The film will follow James' high school years in Akron.
Academy Award nominees Rachel Winter and Terence Winter will produce the film alongside James and SpringHill Company. Chris Robinson, whose work includes the television series "Star" and the 2019 film "Beats," will direct.
