DeChambeau unable to contact Mickelson: 'He's gone dark'

Bryson DeChambeau said he recently tried contacting Phil Mickelson but couldn't get a hold of him.

"I've tried to reach out, but he's gone dark," DeChambeau said, according to ESPN's Nick Pietruszkiewicz. "There's no contact."

Mickelson has stayed secluded since announcing in February that he was stepping away from golf due to criticism regarding his controversial comments about the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series.

The three-time Masters winner is missing the marquee event this week for the first time since 1994.

Many believed that DeChambeau would be willing to ditch the PGA TOUR for the LIV Golf Invitational Series. However, he announced in February that he was sticking with the PGA TOUR.

The 28-year-old is set to play in Augusta after battling injuries over the past few months. He said he had a hairline fracture of the hamate bone in his left hand and a minor labrum tear in his left hip.

DeChambeau, who made his return at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in late March, said he's still not 100% healthy.

"It was a huge risk a couple weeks ago," DeChambeau said. "It was probably not one that my doctors recommended, but I decided to do so because I wanted to give (the Masters) a run."

He added: "I'm probably around 80% right now. I can't go all-out."

DeChambeau finished tied for 46th at last year's Masters with a score of 5-over.
