Cavs' Allen got an iPhone just to join team group text: 'I had to cave in'
Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Jarrett Allen finally joined the iPhone club, but only so he could gain access to his teammates' group chat.
Speaking to ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Tuesday's episode of "The Hoop Collective" podcast, Allen explained how he wasn't allowed in the chat as an Android user and often felt out of the loop.
"I actually had to get an iPhone - I have an Android and an iPhone - just 'cause they wouldn't let me in the group text," Allen said. "Like sometimes it'd be like, 'J, why weren't you at the event last night?' What event? I wasn't in the group text, 'cause they want all blue messages."
He added: "It went for about three-and-a-half years, and then I had to cave in."
The 23-year-old Allen is in his second season with the Cavs after arriving via trade from the Brooklyn Nets early in the 2020-21 campaign. He signed a five-year, $100-million contract with Cleveland in August.
