Wolfsburg's DFB-Pokal run ended off the pitch Monday after they were disqualified for making six substitutions during a recent first-round match, exceeding the limit of five.

The Bundesliga club beat SC Preussen Munster 3-1 after extra time Aug. 8. However, the German Football Association (DFB) has retroactively awarded a 2-0 win to the fourth-tier side after head coach Mark van Bommel's 103rd-minute introduction of Sebastiaan Bornauw and Admir Mehmedi pushed Wolfsburg over the substitution threshold.

"We do not agree with the outcome and will now look into legal options," said Wolfsburg managing director Dr. Tim Schumacher upon hearing the verdict.
