Report: Twins seeking player, prospect in any Berrios deal
The Minnesota Twins want a major-league player and a minor-league prospect in a potential trade involving right-handed starter Jose Berrios, reports MLB Network's Jon Heyman.
While the asking price could come down closer to the trade deadline, the present fee is reportedly considered very high and has rival clubs doubting Berrios will be moved.
Minnesota still likes its nucleus and doesn't want to "punt" on the 2022 campaign, according to Heyman.
The Twins established themselves as deadline sellers Thursday when they dealt All-Star designated hitter Nelson Cruz to the Tampa Bay Rays for two prospects. After winning back-to-back division titles in 2019 and 2020, the club has plummeted in 2021.
Berrios, who's under team control through the 2022 campaign, has been Minnesota's top starter this season. He's authored a 3.69 ERA over 114.2 innings, while his 1.08 WHIP is the best mark of his career.
The 27-year-old is in his sixth season with the Twins and owns a career 4.11 ERA to go with a 55-42 record.
The MLB trade deadline is July 30.
