Master P wants to coach Pelicans: 'We'll win and Zion will be happy'
Hip-hop mogul and New Orleans native Percy "Master P" Miller is making his case to be the Pelicans' next head coach.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Miller said it's time NBA teams went in a different direction with their coaching hires and believes he's the right person for the Pelicans' job.
"The NBA is entertainment, I think it's time for me to be the first hip-hop coach," Miller said, adding, "I played in the NBA, I done coached a lot of great players that are in the league. I done took my sons from being high school athletes to maybe they'll be the next future big-time pro athletes."
"I've coached DeMar DeRozan, a lot of great players. So I think it's time for something different. ... And I know that I can show people like Zion (Williamson) - all the great players that they have on that team, 'cause we got great players on the team, but they need somebody that understands them.
"If they bring me in as a head coach or assistant coach, I think I can change the game."
He added that if the Pelicans hire him, "We'll win and Zion will be happy."
Miller told TMZ in 2017 that the Pelicans almost hired him to be part of Alvin Gentry's staff and was confident back then that he could've helped turn the team around.
The Pelicans parted ways with head coach Stan Van Gundy this month after just one season.
