Antonio Conte has rejected an offer to become Tottenham Hotspur's new manager, citing doubts about the club's project, The Guardian's David Hytner and Fabrizio Romano report.

Talks broke down after the two sides disagreed on salary and investments in the squad, according to Romano.

Spurs were also unsure if the 51-year-old would offer young players a chance to develop, The Telegraph's Matt Law adds.

Tottenham are reportedly moving ahead with the hiring of Fabio Paratici as their new sporting director. Paratici worked with Conte at Juventus from 2011-14.

The north London side had turned to the Italian tactician after reportedly reaching out to former Spurs manager and current Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino. Sources told Tariq Panja of The New York Times that Pochettino remains committed to PSG.

Conte left Inter Milan in May after balking at the club's plans to sell players.

Tottenham are in a similarly tight position. The club is in the process of repaying a £175-million loan to the Bank of England, according to The Athletic's Jack Pitt-Brooke.

Harry Kane's future could also impact Tottenham's ability to compete in the short term. The 27-year-old said he wants to have an "honest conversation" with club chairman Daniel Levy this summer.

If hired, Paratici would have a significant say in player recruitment. He worked for Juventus for the last 11 years and served as the club's general manager for the past three seasons.
