The Houston Astros will be vaccinated for COVID-19 before the 2021 regular season, manager Dusty Baker said on Monday, according to The Athletic's Jake Kaplan.

The Astros originally planned to fly to Oakland for the April 1 opener against the Athletics, but will instead return to Houston to get vaccinated before traveling to the Bay Area on Tuesday, Kaplan adds.

The Texas department of state health services recently announced everyone aged 16 or older in Texas is eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, beginning Monday.

MLB doesn't require players to get vaccinated, but the league and the Major League Baseball Players Association are both strongly encouraging it.
