Rockets plan on retiring Harden's jersey

Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta plans on retiring James Harden's No. 13.

"James Harden will always be a Rocket," Fertitta told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle via text message Tuesday. "Of course, we will retire his jersey. He made my first three years of owning this franchise unforgettable. The success he brought this franchise over eight years and the memories he created for our fan base/community (are) truly remarkable."

Harden developed into one of the game's biggest stars during his nine-year Rockets run. He averaged 29.6 points, 7.7 assists, six boards, and 1.8 steals over 621 appearances with Houston. Harden also earned eight All-Star selections, seven All-NBA nods, three scoring titles, an assists crown, and an MVP award.

The former No. 3 overall pick is the franchise's all-time leader in 3-point field goals, assists, triple-doubles, and free throws made. Only Hall of Fame center Hakeem Olajuwon has scored more points in a Rockets jersey.

Harden will be the sixth player in team history to have their number retired. The Rockets traded him to the Brooklyn Nets in January as part of a four-team blockbuster deal.

Brooklyn will face Houston for the first time since the trade Wednesday at the Toyota Center. A limited number of fans will be in attendance for Harden's return.
