Czech free diver David Vencl earned a spot in the record books Tuesday after achieving the longest swim under ice.

Vencl swam nearly 81 meters (265.75 feet) beneath the ice to break the previous record of 250 feet, set by Stig Avall Severinsen of Denmark in 2017, according to Reuters.

"This will do," Vencl said after his minute-and-a-half swim.

The 38-year-old initially planned to attempt to break the record at a glacial lake in Austria, but he changed the location to a former quarry in Lahost, Czech Republic, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
