The Chicago Cubs and center fielder Jake Marisnick agreed to a contract, reports Jon Morosi of MLB Network.

It's a one-year deal with a mutual option for 2022 that guarantees the outfielder $1.5 million total, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Marisnick will earn a $1-million salary in 2021, plus available incentives, and the mutual option is valued at $4 million with a $500,000 buyout.

Marisnick, 29, spent the 2020 campaign with the New York Mets, appearing in 16 games and hitting .333/.353/.606 with two homers.

Prior to that, Marisnick played five-and-a-half seasons with the Houston Astros, serving primarily as a glove-first fourth outfielder. In 631 games with Houston, the former third-round pick hit .232/.285/.396 with 53 home runs and 65 stolen bases.

The signing comes shortly after Albert Almora Jr. departed the Cubs via free agency, landing a deal with the Mets.

Marisnick joins a revamped Cubs outfield that features Joc Pederson after the club non-tendered Kyle Schwarber, allowing the slugger to sign with the Washington Nationals.
