Francisco Lindor held his introductory press conference as the newest member of the New York Mets on Monday, and the question on everyone's mind was whether or not the superstar rental will ink a long-term deal to stay in Flushing.

"I live life day by day," Lindor said in response to whether an extension is in the works. "I'm extremely happy and excited about what's happening right now, but I haven't really sat down and talked to anybody ... I have never been against an extension. I've never been against signing long term."

"It just has to make sense for both sides," Lindor added, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic.

The four-time All-Star also indicated he would like to have his contract situation resolved by a certain point in spring training and not negotiate in-season, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The Mets acquired Lindor along with right-handed starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco in a blockbuster six-player deal with the Cleveland Indians last Thursday. In exchange, New York sent shortstops Amed Rosario and Andres Gimenez to Cleveland as well as a pair of prospects - pitcher Josh Wolf and outfielder Isaiah Greene.

Shortly after announcing the trade, the front office held a press conference during which president of baseball operations Sandy Alderson shared optimism that his club would be able to work an extension out with Lindor.

Lindor, 27, is entering his final year of arbitration eligibility before being able to test free agency next winter. The two-time Silver Slugger and two-time Gold Glove winner is coming off a down year, hitting .258/.335/.415 with eight homers and six steals while playing all 60 games of the pandemic-shortened campaign.
