Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins expressed his dissatisfaction with how star Trae Young is leading the team's offense during a recent film session, three sources told The Athletic's Chris Kirschner and Sam Amick.

Collins reportedly said the team needs to reduce attempts early in the shot clock in favor of more ball movement and flow on offense and expressed that he wants to be more involved at that end of the floor.

The film session took place Tuesday at the team's practice facility in Atlanta, a day after the Hawks lost 113-108 to the New York Knicks.

There wasn't a back-and-forth between the two players, but Young later expressed to other people that he strongly disagreed with Collins, sources said.

"Trae is my brother regardless," Collins told Kirschner and Amick in a text message when asked about the situation, but he didn't go into detail.

Collins, 23, is currently in his fourth season with Atlanta and is averaging 17.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.8 assists through eight games. He failed to reach an agreement on a rookie contract extension with the franchise this past offseason, putting him on course to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Some within the team reportedly believe that breakdown in negotiations is a potential factor in Collins' frustration.

Young has blossomed into one of the league's most exciting offensive stars after being drafted fifth overall in 2018.

The 22-year-old was named an All-Star for the first time last year as a sophomore and is now averaging 25.9 points, 8.4 assists, and 4.3 rebounds in his third year. However, his 3-point efficiency is below his career rate of 34.2%; he's hitting just 31.1% of his threes this season and attempting just 5.6 per game, compared to 9.5 attempts last season.

The Hawks are currently 4-4 and sit ninth in the Eastern Conference. They were one of the offseason's most active franchises, overhauling the roster with moves for Danilo Gallinari, Bogdan Bogdanovic, and Rajon Rondo, among others.
