Jeremy Lin won't be returning home to play in Northern California.

The Golden State Warriors' reported attempt to sign and waive the veteran in order to retain his G League rights fell through Saturday when the team failed to receive a FIBA-mandated clearance from the Chinese Basketball Association, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Lin last played for the CBA's Beijing Ducks.

The Warriors had reportedly hoped to sign Lin and then waive him - while retaining his G League rights - before Saturday's 11 p.m. ET waiver deadline in order to save approximately $53,000 in a luxury tax hit, according to the New York Times' Marc Stein.

Golden State subsequently signed and waived Elijah Pemberton before the deadline, sources told Stein.

Lin, who grew up in the Bay Area, last played in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors in 2018-19 - where he became the first Asian-American player to win an NBA championship. He began his NBA career with the Warriors as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

Lin averaged 22.3 points and 5.6 assists with the Ducks last season.
