Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze has signed a contract extension through the 2026 season, the school announced Wednesday.

"Coach Freeze is a wonderful blessing to Liberty and we are grateful for his outstanding leadership of our football program and mentorship of our football student-athletes," said athletic director Ian McCaw. "All aspects of the program are on the rise including on-field performance, academics, recruiting, and operations."

Freeze, who's in his second year on the job, has guided the Flames to a program-record seven straight wins to open the season. Liberty is coming off a narrow victory over Virginia Tech and secured the No. 22 ranking in the Week 11 AP Poll. Freeze owns a 15-5 overall record at Liberty.

The former Ole Miss boss has been linked to potential Power 5 openings in light of his resurgence at Liberty. Freeze took the Rebels to great heights from 2012 to 2016 and made them a force on the recruiting trail, but scandals led to his unceremonious exit in 2017.

"I am thankful for the strong commitment and support from president (Jerry) Prevo and our leadership and look forward to continuing to build this program," he said. "Our family along with the coaching staff, support personnel, and players are grateful to have the opportunity to represent this university."
