Former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz was elected to city council in his hometown of Huntington Beach, California, on Tuesday.

Ortiz, 45, received 34,901 votes (14.3%) to earn one of three available seats on Huntington Beach City Council, according to results posted by the Los Angeles Times.

The UFC Hall of Famer ran under the campaign slogan "Make Huntington Beach Safe Again." He told TMZ Sports in August that he ultimately wants to become the city's mayor.

Ortiz last fought at Combate Americas 51 in December 2019, where he defeated former WWE champion Alberto El Patron.
