Five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers is decommitting from Texas' class of 2022.

Ewers, the No. 1 prospect on the ESPN Junior 300, previously announced his intention to join the Longhorns in August. But now he wants more time before choosing a school.

"Given the COVID-19 pandemic facing us, this has been a challenging year for all students like myself," Ewers said in a statement Wednesday. "With the support of my family, I tried to navigate the recruiting process the best way I could. With the process being abnormal this season, I tried my best to keep an open mind to all possibilities.

"However, the more I've considered, the more I've come to realize I didn't explore all the options as thoroughly as I would have liked. Therefore, I've decided to de-commit and reassess the situation before making such an important decision on my future."

"I will soon have a firm decision on where I will spend the next few formative years of my life and career, and I look forward to sharing that with you," he added.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound pocket-passer completed 72.4% of his pass attempts for 4,003 yards and 45 touchdowns with three interceptions through 14 games at Carroll High School last season.

He initially also received offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and LSU, among others.
