DeChambeau 're-inspired' to chase more distance by 'Happy Gilmore'

Bryson DeChambeau's pursuit to be the longest player on the PGA Tour is showing no signs of slowing down.

His dominant win at the U.S. Open validated his transformation and proved how much of an advantage he gains from swinging the club faster.

DeChambeau's inspiration to somehow chase even more distance comes from a surprising source, though.

"You know, I watched 'Happy Gilmore' a little while ago and just re-inspired me to try and hit it as far as possible," DeChambeau said on Wednesday at the Shriners Hospitals for Charity Open.

And though he may not be willing to incorporate the patented Happy Gilmore swing into his game, DeChambeau is still committed to pushing the limits of driver length.

"I'm looking forward to trying to put in a 48-inch driver and see what that can do for the golf course and what opportunities it will present for me," he said.

A 48-inch driver is the longest legal length under the Rules of Golf. The average length on Tour is around 44 inches, and World Long Drive competitors use 50-inch drivers.

"I think there is a lot of, I don't know, I guess you could say advantages to having a 48-inch driver and being able to put it in play and keep it in play," he added.

However, fans will need to wait a little longer before DeChambeau breaks out the 48-inch club.

"I won't unveil that until Augusta," he said.
