Oklahoma City Thunder star Chris Paul says he and his fellow NBA players are empowered in the fight for social justice and must focus on keeping the movement going.

"Players are woke, they're aware, they know what's going on. We just have to continue these conversations," Paul said Tuesday during a discussion on "CITIZEN by CNN."

Paul, the president of the National Basketball Players Association, cited several factors behind the players' empowerment, including Colin Kaepernick's protests and the killing of George Floyd in police custody.

"I think it all just came to a head and guys started really communicating and started realizing that you don't have to just shut up and dribble," Paul said, referring to remarks Fox News' Laura Ingraham made toward LeBron James in 2018.

"I think we have a number of guys - my brother in LeBron James, who has that More Than A Vote (initiative) - everyone just started banding together. We realized how much stronger we are together, so we support each other in whatever it may be."

"As you see, we support our brother Colin Kaepernick. There's a whole entire community of us that know that we're more than just athletes."

Paul, like James, has been working to increase voter turnout for the upcoming U.S. election through the organization When We All Vote, which he helped launch in 2018. He also reportedly got the entire Thunder team registered to vote earlier this year.
