Report: Ertz, Eagles GM had 'heated discussion' over contract
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz and general manager Howie Roseman engaged in a "heated discussion' regarding the player's contract in front of other team members after a practice this week, sources told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Extension talks between the Eagles and Ertz - who is contracted through 2021 - have stalled. The player publically questioned Thursday if the club wants to keep him long term, calling the situation "frustrating."
"I said all along I want (to) be here for the long run. I don't know if for sure that feeling is mutual," he said Thursday. "I'm going to play this year like it's my last year (in Philadelphia)."
The Eagles reportedly offered Ertz a deal similar to Austin Hooper's four-year, $42-million contract with the Cleveland Browns.
George Kittle and Travis Kelce reset the tight end market this offseason with extensions worth $15 million and $14.3 million, respectively. Kittle, Kelce, and Ertz are widely considered to be three of the NFL's best tight ends.
Ertz earns $8.5 million per season on his current deal.
The 30-year-old has been the focal point of Philadelphia's offense over the last two seasons, racking up a combined 2,079 yards and 14 touchdowns on 204 catches.
